Between the Sheets

It emerged suddenly. 4:16 a.m. An urgent call unable to wait till waking hours when disrupters routinely kill. Through the blackness I reach for my phone and respond with a glaring buzz of haptic feedback, interrupting the stillness in my bedroom.

“Something wrong with the kids?” my husband whispers, spooning tighter.

“No,” I say.

But I am tending to my offspring; the faceless orbs of energetic potential that have spontaneously roused me, ideas bound to disappear if not addressed immediately. A piece I’d written and revised ad nauseam had become stagnant, ripe for mold. But instead of growing spores, it suddenly sprouted legs! I get out of bed, make a cup of coffee, and see where it goes.

This experience refers to a short piece submitted to followers of Between the Sheets, my new publication on Substack (a free online subscription) where I post burgeoning ideas in prose and flash fiction. The short works are developed monthly and open for discussion. Go to http://bonitaz.substack.com/ and get Between the Sheets for short, evocative reads!
