Happy Independence!
July 4, 2022 at 1:50 pm | 2 years agoIt’s been a while since I’ve posted. I’ve been juggling spinning-plates while walking (sometimes running) and singing without losing my breath or forgetting the words. Sigh. That’s how I depict my dizzying, at times desolate, always inspired and multifaceted lifestyle as an artist. It’s a balancing act between a dream and real life that requires constant adjustments within the work-hunt-slay cycle.
Yes, slay! That’s when an artist’s grind, creativity and determination culminates in achievement: our concert, performance, fine art, or novel enjoyed by an audience. We feed! And are satisfied . . . until we want more. The hunger keeps us alive and motivated to create.
Meanwhile we do practical things to meet our basic needs. You know, the stuff you pay for with income from a “real job.” We may never get rich or famous, or even pay the rent with our artistic earnings. Yet we persist. No one understands that “nonsense” but our fellow artists. If you’re one of us, you get it. Much respect! If you appreciate what we do, thanks for your support! Regardless if you’re an artist or a supporter, keep doing what makes you whole and independent.
Despite its uncertainty, my ability and freedom to create is fulfilling. On this July 4th, 2022 I celebrate that artistic independence, and am grateful for what you bring to that experience. Happy Independence Day!
