I Confess!

I’m not the most well-read writer. But it has moved up on my list of goals since I’ve checked off maintaining a steady work schedule (the one that pays my mortgage), consistently working out (lost a solid seven pounds), and regularly taking “days off” to write.

Unfortunately, other duties that come with being an independent author often hijack the time I set aside for writing– a reason my next book is taking longer than expected. Duties like marketing, developing a social media presence, and learning the business of literature are relevant matters that deserve attention too. So reading for pleasure while juggling an abundance of duties seems like an indulgence that would lead to dropping a ball or two. Something has to give, right?

It’s widely agreed that to be a good writer one must always be reading. However I do feel better knowing renowned author, Walter Mosley, (whose Devil in a Blue Dress was made into a film starring Denzel Washington) disagrees with that notion. Still, no one denies that being well-read is an asset. So today I took another step toward that goal, and bought Seven Days in June by Tia Williams! It was recommended by a fellow writer who says it’s comparable to Ajha’s Web: A Series. I guess I’ll have to learn to read while juggling.
